Senate approves bill to broaden wiretap powers Posted: 4 months ago by theclansman
The Senate gave final approval on Wednesday to a major expansion of the government’s surveillance powers, handing President Bush one more victory in a series of hard-fought clashes with Democrats over national security issues. As most of you may know, I am a huge Obama fan and am saddened to see him voting in support of this (even though he said he wouldn't).

Bush Spy Bill Stance Called Fear-Mongering Posted: 9 months ago by dollyllama
The administration admitted that the sweeping domestic surveillance originated in the wake of the September 11, 2001, attacks. However, declassified documents obtained by the National Security Archive and testimony that is part of these lawsuits suggest the National Security Agency program was put into place shortly after Mr. Bush was inaugurated, long before 9/11.

Bush Vetoes Children's Health Bill Posted: 11 months ago by marli
The measure would provide $60 billion over the next five years, $35 billion more than current spending and $30 billion more than the president proposed. Mr. Bush and his backers argue that the bill would be a step toward federalization of health care, and that it would steer the program away from its core purpose of providing insurance for poor children and toward covering children from middle-class families.
