« bingo : Unlike McCain, many seniors depend on the Web Well... not exactly. "Many" is a bit of an exaggeration, according to the article (which used "many" in its headline... this is not a shot at "bingo").
QUOTE:
Only 35 percent of Americans over age 65 are online, according to data from April and May compiled by the Pew Internet Project at the Pew Research Center.
But when you account for factors like race, wealth and education, the picture changes dramatically. "About three-quarters of white, college-educated men age over 65 use the Internet," says Susannah Fox, director of the project.
So it's only really, "many" when you consider some other factors (race, education, wealth, etc.). When you consider his age alone... he's in a significant majority.
But I suppose the real question is (and they talk about it in the article too), does it really matter?

« ImNotBlue : But I suppose the real question is (and they talk about it in the article too), does it really matter? McCain (as well as any older entrenched politician) is in a situation now which would preclude (learning to navigate) the internet. Learning in reality, is much different today than it was 20 years ago, much less 70 years ago when he started.
Technology in general is so fast paced it's virtually impossible to keep up with anything outside of your specialized field, and U.S. regulatory agencies (IRS, FED, USDA, FCC, OSHA, FDA) to name just a few, have almost put a complete stop to any meaningful productivity in our country.
In short ... I don't think it matters whether or not McCain learns the internet at this time in his life.

« ImNotBlue : As long as he has people around him who do understand. I think anyone who does understand him realizes that he's not going to change much at this point in his life. If the unthinkable does happen, and he is elected president, there will be even less time for learning ... probably all his time will be spent memorizing.
