Indeed.

I'll be interested to see how the rest of this story is covered.

I've already seen reports of the LA Times telling its bloggers not to discuss the issue.

If this turns out to be true he can cancel any chance of being Obama's VP choice.

Honestly, even the threat of a scandal is enough to sink that ship. What little chance I though Edwards had of being chosen for VP... well, it's even less now.

I feel bad for his wife.

Unless, of course, she knows about it and is cool with him finding another women since she may not have much longer to live.

Ewwwwwwww. At best, that's pretty tactless. No bueno.

Huh?

Maybe you misunderstand me, none of this would really matter if his wife is okay with it. She's got cancer and maybe she's okay with him finding someone else? If so, this actually doesn't amount to much of a scandal.

The problem I have here is this: Edwards is a hypocrite to the extent that he "espoused" his family values during his campaign.
If the allegations turn out to be true, then indeed his star won't shine as bright nor rise as high as it might have. Indeed, he was not my favorite pick for VP to begin with.

Larry Craig, in my opinion, is far worse a hypocrite. He co-sponsored the Marriage Protection Amendment with Vitter, if memory serves me well (We won't even get into Vitter's problems). If this bill had passed it would have amended the Constitution to state that marriage "shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman." Craig was a big influence in changing Clintons idea of full acceptance of gays in the military to the "don't ask' don't tell" policy.

The big difference here is that Edwards was not trying to pass legislation condemning the very behavior in which he might be engaged.

Craig was supporting bills on one hand and well, do we really want to know what the other hand was doing?

It is my firm belief that all politicians are two-faced. I don't trust a single one of them, and stories like this one don't shock me in the slightest.

I dunno... the idea that just because his wife has cancer, she'd somehow be okay with him fooling around outside the marriage, or already moving on... well, that seems both unlikely, and pretty skeevy to me.

If that's the case... "boo" on him for doing it. All I know, is I wouldn't have made that assumption, or hypothesized anything like that.

All true... mostly.

The only response I'd give, is that while Craig was apparently working on bills that were pretty hypocritical for him (at least, allegedly hypocritical, he still denies the "gay" part of the story… and I’m not one to tell someone else what their ‘preference’ is or isn’t), and Edwards wasn't... Edwards' party (the Democrats) were responsible for a lot of the criticism of Craig. If your party is going to attack someone like Craig for doing something out of his marriage, you then have a duty to criticize one of your own who has done the same (or at least a similar) thing.

Also, Craig was a bit player in the Republican party. Edwards was a (twice) candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, and former vice presidential nominee. He's got a little more fame attached, than Craig does.

Craig is still more hypocritical (allegedly), but Edwards still deserves some coverage.

I agree.
Bit player or two time candidate, hypocrisy is a "downvote"in my book.
I still think the level that Craig "stooped" to is lower than Edwards based on the legislation alluded to earlier. As far as Craig being attacked by the Dems, I seem to recall a lie about a blowjob leading to impeachment proceedings. It seems its a nasty game form both sides.

I wonder what the politics were like back in our hunter gatherer dfays eh?
