Breakfast of Champions? Phelps signs with Frosted Flakes
Some are criticizing him for not sticking with healthy endorsements, for 'sending kids the wrong message.'

I hear Phelps loves McDonalds, so why not endorse them? What do you think? picked by coldbladed 3 months ago

I think he should tell them to shut the hell up and earn their own gold medals if they don't like it!

If I got famous, for whatever reason, I would feel worse about endorsing products I do not like.

If the guy loves Frosted Flakes and Big Macs why not endorse them? If kids are 'sent the wrong message' why are their parents not helping them understand the difference? Its not Phelps' fault we have a problem with moderation in our society.

He is just going with who wrote the biggest check. This is just one out of many many many more to come. Nothing too exciting.

People can eat whatever they like, enjoy whatever they like and endorse whatever they like.

There are calorie intake guidlines for a reason, they provide the recommended amount and if you stay within those limits then you should be fine.

As long as you are able to read the guidelines, or do the basic arithmetic in daily intake. I worry about the poor, stupid fat kids that will blindly follow half naked speed swimmers in whatever they do.

I always knew Mike Phelps was special.

Here's what Tony did before his cereal gig.

Frosted flakes aren't that bad...they don't have marshmallows in them. I think if he likes them, they fit perfectly into his high carb diet. We in B'more have of course been overphelpsized for some time now. I think it will be interesting to see how he ends up after retiring. His penchant for video games + a 12k calorie/day tolerance + the 30's may make for poor Mike packing on some pounds unless he can regulate. He has stated that between the end of the Olympics and February he will not be doing any "serious" training (which for him means probably only 2 hours of weights and 1500 meters/day in the pool. 12k calories isn't really THAT extraordinary when you look at what he burns. Elite cyclists also consume mega carbs to keep from "hitting the wall" in longer races, the big thing is to know NOT to mega eat when you won't be mega burning.

The breastroke burns a lot less calories but is a lot more fun.

...sorry...ex-competitive swimmer.

No, that's a bare minimum. I.e., you're sitting in bed doing nothing. A 180 pound male could not live well on 2,500 a day.

I've always thought of Frosted Flakes as a more "healthy" cereal.

McDonalds have signed into a contract to sponsor the Olympics for 20 years.

This is probably why you've heard Phelps loves their meals.
