Was The Confederacy Defeated By Southerners? Posted: 3 months ago by 2manyusernames
Most textbooks teach us that the north won the US civil war thanks mostly to their larger population and industrial capabilities. Another possibility is the fact of the internal divisions in the south had more to do with the Confederacy defeat than anything else.

Not to jack your post, but I heard an NPR interview with Robert Hicks, author of Widow of the South that intrigued me enough to buy the book, at retail no less. If you're interested in the Confederacy and its history, it's a must-read.

Oddly enough, I was never really interested in History in school. I hated it and struggled every year. Now as I have gotten older and have found other avenues of learning history besides monotoned teachers with bad toupees, I am very interested in this book.
Thanks for this post, 2many.

Thanks 2Many, very interesting read.
My G.G.G Grandfather was a Confederate soldier. Since childhood I've enjoyed reading the history of, as Grandmother called it, "The war between the states". (caveat - I'm not one of those "Yee-haw, the south will rise again" southerners:)We even have the black powder rifle my GGG Grandftaher used.
I find it interestnig to ponder how we know what we think we know. And what we think we know " It ain't necessarily so". :)
