Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin sent her son off to fight for a "righteous cause" as his Army unit prepared to deploy to Iraq.

Palin promised the 4,000 troops gathered on a tarmac at Fort Wainwright Thursday that she was honored to be there to see them "go forth in defense of America and America's cause -- and it is a righteous cause."

Iraq right? Not Afghanistan...because "the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the deaths of thousands of Americans ...September 11, 2001" didn't come from Iraq, nor did they have anything to do with it...(Perhaps someone should tell her that).

So... was it not a "righteous" cause to want to liberate the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein? He was known to have murdered, raped (with the help of his sons), and tortured his own people? Was it not "righteous" to want to give those people an opportunity to live a normal life, without the fear of Hussein's dictatorship?

It is debatable whether we should have invaded Iraq, etc. etc. However, since that's not really the point of this article, rather Gov. Palin's use of the word "righteous," I felt it was necessary to point out that her word choice wasn't incorrect.

Furthermore, this all really stems from the notion (lie) that she said the war was a "task from God." That is actually a lie and a smear... here is the actual quote:

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."
What she was saying (which should be clear, when the second line is included), was that she was praying that the decisions made (ie Iraq) were part of God's plan... pray that they ARE a task from God... not the other way round, as some have reported.

But I digress... righteous was the correct word.
