The headphones supplied with the 3rd Gen iPod Shuffle contains a small chip labelled 8A83E3. Speculation is that this chip is a form of authentication and that without it 3rd party headphones won't work properly. End result? Manufacturers have to pay a tax to Apple to make headphones that work with the iPod range and Apple get to choose how you use the product you own and have paid for. picked by pocksucket 9 months ago 16 comments edit related share plime.com |
