Scientists are revising upwards their estimates on the number of orcas in the ocean. As many as 200 killer whales were seen feeding on tuna in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Orcas typically are thought to live in cold water and eat seals. We are still learning. picked by amabaie 8 months ago 8 comments edit related share plime.com |
Orcas, or killer whales, are the largest of the porpoises and one of the world's most powerful predators. They feast on marine mammals such as seals, sea lions, and even whales, employing teeth that can be four inches (ten centimeters) long. They are known to grab seals right off the ice. They also eat fish, squid, and seabirds. picked by AutumnLotus 2 years ago 5 comments edit related share plime.com |
