Former Congressman sentenced to 13 years for accepting bribes Posted: 3 weeks ago by bigirishdude
William Jefferson, a former Congressman from New Orleans, was sentenced to 13 years... less that what the prosecutors asked for, but more than what the defense argue he should receive for his crimes.

During the time of the Roman Empire, an elected official convicted of accepting a bribe was executed. If we used that as precedent, I think we'd be executing Congressmen and Senators so often that no one would run for office.

How I became a divorced virgin Posted: 2 months ago by lynxears
I was twenty-nine, single again after a five-year marriage, and a virgin. When I met my now ex-husband Mike, I had just turned 21. We met at small Catholic liberal arts college, and even though I no longer believed in Jesus, the Saints, the Bible, God, really any of that. I was a virgin then, and I was a virgin when we divorced.

THE hand of history has a very long reach. It appears that the Roman Empire left a legacy that may still affect modern Europe - those living within its conquered lands are more susceptible to HIV. It could explain why a gene that confers resistance to HIV varies in frequency across the continent.

NASA talks little green men with Vatican Posted: 9 months ago by Bornbad
It's a good time to be a Catholic and a cosmologist. Heretic stake burnings are at an all-time low, and the Vatican has even warmed to the idea of ETs out there in the infinite expanse. The trick with most space-bound concerns is that the universe is so extremely large and old. About 159,302,326 times as old as Golden Girls' Bea Arthur, in fact.
