The Vinegar referred to is Oxos, which means "the mixture of sour wine or vinegar and water which the Roman soldiers were accustomed to drink". KJV Greek Lexicon.

According to the bible, Jesus was offered the same drink laced with myrrh, which was commonly given to criminals who were crucified to ease their suffering, at an earlier point but refused. Then later when offered plain wine/vinegar to drink he accepted.

It was hardly cruel of the soldiers to offer him a drink that would ease his suffering or the very drink they had took there for themselves according to previous verses.

I didn't read the previous threads because , well, I didn't ask and it's none of my business.

But since you asked J.

What I personally see (imagine) is through your entire flesh's life, you gather experience. Both positive and negative. Those give you memory. Memories give you energy. THAT energy is what is yours to multiply by 'sending out good vibes" or saying a prayer for someone, or picking up litter, or helping in any way YOU can. If you feel like your just a pawn in the game, do your job as a pawn. Guard, and make like a bat outta hell to the other side for your material exchange.
(if you don't play chess, a pawn that reaches the other side of the board, gets promoted)

I was 'thinkering the other day about brides maids and bouquets.

Imagine if you will (totally a rod sterling que)

The world of flesh is inhabited by nothing BUT long-horned devils (IMG search Tim Curry,Legend) and God and his army are looking down on earth with a stack of halo's......From there on, it's just a simple game of 'ring-toss'. You can't FORCE a devil to catch it, you can't force a devil to keep it. But the tossers are counting, and when you expire, if you don't have wings, at least you gave back to the stack.

Keep your head up less the blessings slide from your horns.

Pretty sure Mersh already knew what persecute meant and even in the revelation of it's meaning his point still stands :D

I fail to see how it is "harassing" to have a simple debate. It would be such only if the people involved began insulting each other without well reason to do so. As for being oppressed, that's just silly.

2. to annoy or trouble persistently.
Unless these people you have encountered have been following you around trying to debate you, it's not persecution.

You're absolutely Right Mershaullk.
I apologize. You have never gone out of your way to mock the Christians or post photos or cartoons that might potentially be offensive to them.

I think the word persecution should probably be reserved for more serious things than something "that might be potentially offensive".

I met a woman yesterday who had her tongue cut out in residential school for not speaking in English.

Even though I'm not a Catholic, I was raised one, and things like this make me angry and embarassed to be associated with it. With being Catholic, with being Canadian, with pretty much just accepting this colonialism.

It's been bothering me all day, and I know it will bother me for weeks.

I just don't understand why people were so cruel to these people. I just don't understand why the WASP's thought they were so incredibly superior that they could do these things.

I'm so sad now, so sad. I get so upset to hear these. I just couldn't imagine being 5 years old and being taken so far from home and having your identity beaten out of you, in the name of the government and progress. Some of the schools had a 50% death rate. That makes me feel so sick inside.

I'm glad our government is finally addressing the issue, though. I wish it never had happened, but at least they've stopped trying to cover it all up.

You initially said "How cruel it was" that they gave him vinegar to drink. So what your saying is that the ones who loved him were cruel because you're now saying is that it was them who gave him the vinegar/sour wine.

If you read the passage you'll see that on both occasions that Jesus was offered a drink, both the time it was laced with myrrh and the time he drank it was given him by the soldiers. In any case it was offered to Jesus before he was crucified. We know that it was offered to him before he was actually crucified because we read of this drink in verses 33 and 34 and then in verse 35 we read: "And they crucified him." He was not yet nailed to the cross when they tried to give him this vinegar to drink. They offered it at that time because that vinegar mixed with gall was a drug - a kind of narcotic - that was used at crucifixions to sedate those who were being crucified. Though we don't read of it, the same drink was probably given to the two thieves who were crucified with Jesus, and was given to make the job of the Jews and of the Roman soldiers that much easier.

I don't mean to be rude but if your going to believe and put all your faith in a book make sure you read it properly and understand it fully.

Thanks for you input though.

Christ, I'm arguing about a book I don't even believe in wtf?!
