Discussion about the Polygamist Compound

I have a serious question about the Polygamist Compound and the FLDS. (If you haven't, you need to read the many articles about it....most of them are linked on DeepChill's latest submission)

Anywho....

According to the Yahoo report,
Of those 463 children, 250 are girls and 213 are boys.
I don't understand how the men can have so many wives....the numbers just don't add up.

If each man has just 2 wives...using those numbers, they will be 176 women short.

But I read somewhere (I can't find it) that some men have 10 or more wives.

Can the wives have more than one husband? Can Joe be married to Susie and Lucy, but Lucy ALSO be married to Bill? I was under the impression that they can only have one husband.

So my big question is....how do you get 10 females to ever 1 male ratio? You can't do it by reproduction as odds say you will end up close to 50/50.

(I dunno...is the way I worded this more confusing that the actual answer to my question...)

And let's please keep this as a serious discussion and not go too far offsides to where you piss someone off....I'm really curious about this.

I think there's a difference between boys and men.

Men are the ones with multiple wifes
Boys are part of the offspring (and I'm sure those got kicked out eventually).

The actual problem is that the aforementioned "men" did not make a difference between girls and women.

I'll say right off the bat that I don't know the specifics of this case, but my guess is that there is some sort of, for want of a better word, caste system, whereby the ruling classes are permitted more wives whereas those lower down - the drones - get none.

If you have a society where women are still classed as chattels, it could well follow that the higher you rank the more chattels you are awarded with.

But that is pure speculation.

The older boys are often abandoned in other towns and chased off the compounds. The ones that get to stay are the 'chosen' ones. If you look at the age breakdown for the male children, most were under 10, while the females have a normal age distribution. There are several rescue organizations that pick up the abandoned boys and help them.

Yea, I knew that was the number of children....but children eventually grow up and the boys will need 10 wifes of their own.

No, the wives are bound to only one man. They are assigned to the man, or the man picks them out from the available "harem" of girls who have been deemed old enough to marry. The women have no say in these situations, nor are they allowed to decide for themselves whether or not they will have children, or even how many they will have.
They are treated like dairy cows, in my opinion.

I believe what Pock said about the male hierarchy is true in this case. Men who are closer to the "prophet" at the top of the food chain will be rewarded with more wives, while the lesser males have to work to earn theirs, or are left out of the distribution altogether. Young men who do not follow the letter of the "law" closely enough are often cast out with absolutely nothing. Sometimes they become wards of the state, sometimes they become homeless, sometimes they turn to drugs or prostitution. It's almost never good.

Here's another article, with links to other aspects of their religion, such as "Bleeding the Beast", with is basically going on welfare, and how they encourage it.

I guess the bottom line is, according to them, a man has to have at least 3 wives to get into heaven. A woman has to be in a marriage with at least two "sister wives" if she wants to see her children in heaven.

As Maven and others have said, they kick most of the males out starting at 13, banishing them to hell and allowing no contact with their family.

They also kick out married men that they deem need to repent, with the idea they may one day be allowed back in. They keep their wives and children.

Sounds like a recipe for "Hell on Earth" if you asked me.

Ever wonder why you never hear the reverse, woman with multiple husbands?

It's simple. If there were mutliple husbands in the family it would mean more work for the wife. Think about it, with four husbands they would spend all night playing poker and drinking beer.

Now that I think about it... Having some extra husbands around the house may not be such a bad idea!

Three wives. One is inclined to think immediatley of orgies. But there is also the triumverant of b***hing and whining and pissing and moaning that must also be considered.

And menstation... I read somewhere that women who are in contact regularly with one another have menstraul cycles that occur at roughly the same time. Can you imagine 3+ wives PMSing?

I don't know if the orgies would be worth it.

Have you seen these people?? No one is having any orgies in this group.
[offensive material]
Anyone forcing themselves to have orgies with these women would have to drink so much that they'd end up with an awful case of whiskey d**k.

I wasn't referring to these people specifically. The thought of three wives lead me down an alternate path of thought. Because, believe it or not, the first thing a man thinks of when he hears "three wives" is "orgies".

You are correct. I worked in an office of twenty or so women. Good lord, I NEVER wanna do that again.

In a polygamists case- PMS times three, at your throat, at each others' throats.. Sweet Jeebus.
Nuke that place from orbit.

You are forgetting that these are not normal women. They are not allowed to be b***hy to their husbands regardless of what he does. They are supposed to be sweet little sheep (remember the interview)

So wait... These guys were f**king sheep?

Also, it's too bad they weren't supposed to be "Pretty sheep". Or better yet, "Pretty sheep who like to have orgies."

I think I'm gonna start a cult based on this principle. Any ladies interested in joining?

As long is there is a 3 to 1 female/male ratio (females being the 3, males being the 1), that's fine with me.

I believe one of the laws of our cult is a "one sausage per orgy" rule.
