A while ago, I came upon this wonderful post over at Science-Based Medicine, which talks about this book. We all seem convinced we're right about politics, religion or science these days. What makes us so sure of ourselves?
I think this is a fascinating topic, so I decided to write a version that focuses on religion. It's hard for me to understand how so many fundamentalists and religious theists are so sure they're right when it comes to mysteries such as an afterlife or the origin of life on earth.
What do you guys think? Where does this confidence come from?

I think you should read some Spinoza.
I also think you should have posted your blog in the appropriate thread.

I believe this is a fine way to post your blog.
We don't want people to post their blogs to the front page because then they are just promoting themselves looking for free advertising.
Starting up a conversation with a post to their blog is great here in the forums. Posting this to the blog thread would have it lost among the rest and would not result in any conversation.
The blog thread should be for just a list of blogs. Let new threads be for individual articles within the blog.
As long as they are not commercial articles/sites than this is the best way

There's the link for the blog thread there. As long as you're not submitting links to your blog/site in the main news page it's all good.
*editz* Blog thread Just in case you didn't see it in the FAQ's.
It's all good to start a thread like this, it's intelligent and thought provoking. We get a lot of self-promoters on here who are only here to drive traffic through their blogs/sites so peoplez on plime be getting a bit touchy about it but IMO you don't seem like a self-promoting asshat to me. :D
Keep on keeping on.

Keep on keeping on. Right on, I get it now. I'll keep all blogs out of the news section. If I do post something from our blog, It'd always be a conversation starter and not just "here's our article, read it".
I don't see the point of posting blogs in that huge list. It's over 7 pages long and would be buried.

Ted, if you don't mind me asking, how did you come across Plime? Oh, and welcome. :) Thanks. I saw that someone submitted our website somewhere on here (though now I can't find where) and Plime.com popped up in our stats. So I decided to have a gallop through the site and ended up staying.

I don't see the point of posting blogs in that huge list. It's over 7 pages long and would be buried. One more thing. You can post a blog to the front page. Many of us have done so.
If it is a news article on the front page, than yes always post to a news site if at all possible. You are more than welcomed to post a link to a blog (not your own) within the description of the news article. This is good to do, because a blog will often add to the news story. It will usually have commentary and a conversation going on about the story that can kickstart a conversation here on Plime.
Conversations, debates, etc are why most of us come here. We can get a listing of articles/stories anywhere. The adult conversations that can result is what makes Plime unique.
So go ahead and post blogs on news articles but within the description not the headline.
You can post interesting blog articles to the front page. Heck there are probably more of those than news articles. All that we insist on is that you refrain from posting your own sites or sites you are connected to somehow.

to do so.

[reply] ...I hear ya Ted...Amen to that! [/reply]
plime has overwhelmingly ruled against self-promotion since it's birth. Unless that changes or gets overturned, it's still that way. The people here are keen on the look, smell, walk, and taste of self-promotion.
That being said...welcome to plime ted. Hope you stick around.

The guy has abided by what he's been told so far and doesn't post his blog to the main pages.
The dude starts a thread and so far everyone's jacked it and not even commented on topic.
Let's try not to be too hard on the guy, yet, lol.
Give him a chance. Hell, he sounds a 100% more intelligent and respectful than the majority of sploggers/self-promoters that come on here.
Seriously if it comes across to n00bs that we are cliquey and uptight, no more n00bs, plimes downfall. That is all.
*editz* I can understand when n00bs just don't listen to repeatedly being told or are rude or blatantly self-promoting, they deserve to be stomped on but I don't think this guys any of those things.
