The ReligionFacts "Big Religion Chart" is an attempt to summarize all the complexities of religions and belief systems into tiny little boxes on a single, quick-reference comparison chart. Yes, of course this is impossible. Protestantism and Catholicism really shouldn't be grouped together. They're at least as different (if not more) as Christianity and Seventh-Day Adventists.

Just remember: every individual is different, it's never good to judge people by a generalization based on a label.

Yes, of course this is impossible. As we always warn with our comparison charts, this is no substitute for reading about religions in greater detail, talking with religious adherents, etc. But this religion comparison chart can (hopefully) be a useful and accessible way to "get the gist" of some unfamiliar groups and compare basic beliefs and practices of the world's religions and belief systems.

I didn't mean for that post to be a rebuttal of the comparison chart, just a reminder. Simple comparisons can help one understand the subtleties between groups, but not the beliefs of an individual. Sometimes people assume just because a person is an X, they believe Y.

Yes, it's the MORE popular section, used more and should have been included.

I guess I just didn't see the disclaimer as addressing generalizations of individuals, but rather just warning that quick reference is no substitute for in-depth analysis. I realize the chart wasn't made to wrangle everybody into religious Jello molds, but they didn't seem to clearly address that issue.

This is a good post. Very good basic information. However, the best way to learn about a specific religion is to go directly to the source. Make sure it is written by someone who is of that faith, not WAS. I think this was mentioned earlier. That is just my humble opinion. Great post though...a good beginning for searching.

Hmm...looks like one of the best descriptions of me would be a non-deist Epicurean, or whatever you would call an Epicurean who doesn't believe in gods.

I enjoy a non-public life that is also the good life. Me and my movies and music, and the company of others when they feel like it--sounds like I might have to do some reading on this guy.

(btw, new dual monitor setup: 24-in monitor-1920*1200 and 1000:1/500nits as well-woot! I am such a geek)

I notice that the symbols of Jainism and Falun Gong both have swastikas. Jainism I can understand, as it predates the Nazis by thousands of years... But Falun Gong was made in the 1990s. Some things need to be thought through more.

i find it as an Atheist that we should not even be included in this as we Atheist are NOT a a religion, we are everything but a religion just because a group of people are actually organized does not mean that we are a religion, belief in a religion is everything opposite of an Atheist.....

A wise man once said this famous line:

"If you choose not to decide You still have made a choice" :-)

I guess it is there for comparison figures. If nothing else compare the numbers of "followers"
