Echoing comments of a recent similar Jesus/Hospital appearance story, I'd sort of expect that if he were to make some sort of appearance, it would be in such a way that reality as we know it would appear as YouTube does compared to HDTV.

But it also raises in my mind a question of denied faith (albeit borrowed slightly from Douglas Adams).

In the minds of the sort of people who believe this kind of thing would not the appearance of a form of the deity act as proof? And doesn't God stubbornly refuse to prove he exists because proof and faith are (in this instance*) mutually exclusive?

To flip now from Douglas Adams to Terry Pratchett, it's like Granny Weatherwax not believing in the gods because she knows them too well. It would be like believing in the postman.



*OK, I will concede that all the science in the world could prove to me that parachutes worked, but it would be faith in the parachute I'd need to get me to jump out of an airplane, not a pie chart.
