One way to solve the problem with not enough organs available for the very small percentage of people who need one, is to allow the selling of organs.

We had a debate about that in public speaking class. If the Government actually had money to spend, they could offer stipends or other funds that hospitals could use to buy organs with. That way the treatment is done right in the hospital, there is no middle man and the the organs are right there for the hospital to use. They are very safe with the blood supply so I imagine they'd know how to deal with organs as well.

Well, you can't store organs so they wouldn't be able to have any on hand. Paying for organs would be okay unless it was not passed to the people needing transplants. It's a slippery slope to go down.

Of course, once they start harvesting organs it becomes somewhat moot as to whether you were dead or in a coma.

This whole concept makes my skin crawl. I'm a registered organ donor but I don't like to think about the actual process. Hopefully I'll be pulled out to heaven long before anyone gets around to slicing me open. I'm all for helping people as long as I don't have to be around for the process of having my internal organs removed.
