New Legs for Basketball Girl
New Legs for Basketball Girl
This young girl lost her legs in an accident at three years old. Unable to afford the cost of prosthetics, Qian’s parents came up with the idea of sitting her on a basketball, which, with the aid of a couple of brushes that double as low-level crutches, enabled her to move herself by bouncing around. After many years, she was fitted with new titaniums and is learning to walk again. picked by gnikgnok 2 years ago

That hello kitty gets everywhere! Do you think if she got a flat she could call out the AA?

Handy! Unsanitary though . . . .

The basketball idea would have been cooler if they had a way to put a rod though the ball and attached it to her so she could roll around instead of having to bounce everywhere.

I bet she'd fall down if you pushed her.

She probably got made fun of a lot. The older kids probably tried to throw her through a hoop.

Edit: Well, at least she's not a guy. I went to elementary school with this dude with a fake leg and I don't think a day went by without someone asking Does it work? And you know what happened to him? He turned goth.

Ball may have doubled as a colostomy bag, now that's thinking out of the box.

Well, yeah. Sanrio isn't very American-sounding. And it doesn't look very American either (I say it looks cooler than American cartoons).

Also, why does it seem that Asians who weren't raised over here always pose with a peace sign? I have this book Fruits and there's a peace-sign on every other page!

(I know I linked a lot in this, sry yos)

Her new legs look cool though. I know some voice-of-reason will come along and tell us we're not being compassionate enough, but hell - I don't want my old legs anymore, I want those ones.

I hope a voice of reason comes along and recommends that she start wearing pants! LOL!

Titanium legs would be kewl. SHe's a tough kid, I don't think anyone gives her much grief. She'd bite them where it hurts!

Those new legs look pretty cool.

I'm always astonished at what they're able to do with these legs and stuff. Like on the one picture it looks like there are no legs left on her body, yet they attach legs, and she's able to use them. How on earth?

Telekinesis.

She looks like 1/2 robot 1/2 little girl now.

I don't think anyone's going to come tell us we're going to Hell unless they're like a level 1 and don't know us yet.

I think we all know we're compassionate human beings. I think we also all know that we can have fun with anything without being hateful. I feel mostly safe being myself on Plime because ya'll's cool.

I agree with that 100%. At my school we make "cultural and racist jokes" all the time. Racist in the sense that we make fun of the Germans, and the Germans make fun of the Dutch, and the Dutch make fun of the Belgians. And sometimes we go pretty far. And you know what? Noone has a problem with it. Well all laugh at each other and we're all friends. That's cultural understanding for you.

I can only imagine the storys she will tell as an old lady.

.... Why when I was a kid I didn't get fake legs like all these fancy onces you see in stores now. Nope, all I had was a basketball and some scrub brushes and I was happy to have that!

You assume they work, and they have not just stood her there and said "make peace sign before you fall!"
