It's already proven that sheep are the closest in physiology to humans. Doctors prescribe the same worm medicine for humans as sheep, for example.

And some people still think it's the apes.

Now that movie about killer sheep that was posted here a while back which we all laughed at will actually become a prophetic cinematic marvel. Baaad idea.

This isn't gross! Do you folks prefer people keep dying because of lack of organs suitable for transplantation? Jeez.

I'd prefer that more people decide to donate their organs after their death.
And, that scientists would stop trying to play God.

I don't think scientists will ever stop trying to play God

Donation isn't a cure-all. The recipients still have to be on immunosuppressents for the rest of their lives. And unless society undergoes a sudden sea change there will never be a supply to equal demand.

As for playing god? Screw that. The definition of playing god changes with every generation. Go back far enough and there were probably caveman worried the gods would be pissed if you started a fire on your own rather than waiting for lightning to strike a dead tree. Even if you are religious and there's no sense arguing with you, why not subscribe to David Brin's interpretation: god is letting human being gain knowledge because human beings are apprentice gods?

I just think we use the world as our own personal science fair too often. Mashing together genes of two different species and thinking it's going to work perfectly just seems a little too arrogant, to me.

When will people stop trying to play God? How about, when will the ignorant and naive people who ask that realise that we are experimenting for the betterment of everyone. No individual is trying to produce an army of super-evil half-breed mutants to take over the world. They're trying to produce viable human organs to SAVE lives and improve living conditions of millions around the world. You want to label that as evil? Nay, I say that anyone who opposes this is evil. Evil for denying those suffering a chance at life. Evil for opposing medical science that one day may save their life!

I would garuntee that almost everyone opposed to genetically engineered orgrans, or, any other similar technology, would completely change their opinion on the matter should they one day be in need of the organ. It's all well and good to condemn science for trying to save lives, until they day it's yours...

We don't expect this to work out perfectly. We expect it to take years of work, millions of dollars and involve a hefty portion of risk - we also expect it to save thousands of lives, and improve living conditions for countless more.

You don't like it? Fine, find a better way, but dont criticise anyone else for trying.
