I find it incredibly hard to believe that all this could be discovered from a teaspoon of water or even a much larger amount. The amount of water going down the sewer is absolutely enormous compared to the amount of drugs in urine.

I suppose drugs flushed down the toilet in police raids would also be detected....

That said, I saw it on Fox News so is it just a tactic in the war on drugs?

Oh, great. I can just see some CSI: Miami writer taking this to ridiculous extremes:



"We know the killer was a coke addict. We need a sample of this suspect's urine to rule him out."

"I'll go to the waste treatment plant, collect a sample, and bring it back to the lab."

"Good idea. Use DNA to sort his urine from the other million citizens', then send it to trace and check for cocaine."

"Should I wear a low-cut blouse while leaning over the waste treatment tank?"

"Of course. As for our killer..." He pauses to don his sunglasses. "Ur-ine for a surprise."


YEAAAAahhhhhhhhh!!

Ooh! Ooh! I want them to test my town! We have so much crazy s**t here! We got overseas research chemicals! Whoooooo!!!!!
