Little test to see which side of the brain you use most.

We've seen the rotating dancer here recently...
I see her rotating clockwise, so I should be right-brained, but I recognise myself in a lot of left-brain functions too.
So maybe I actually use both parts of my brain?
Now... how to actually use more of the brain more of the time... hmmm...

both, everytime I looked away she switched direction.

That explains the variations in your posting: From serious environmental and astronomical stuff, to a picture of a cat with surgically-enhanced breasts...

Brain... That's the thing in my head, right? No, I don't really use either side of it.

i can relate to that. i really did try to see the dancer turning the other way, but simply couldn't do it.

It just switches... like every three seconds, even while I'm staring at it. Which side of my brain would it be making me think this is a scam?

I share a brain with my husband, mom and best friend. I am not sure which side of the brain I have this morning.

What a pile of rubbish. It's a cool animation but it's been around for ages. All they've done is nick the image and append a load of left brain/right brain nonsense - even putting this sort of pseudoscientific claptrap in the science category is frankly an insult to science.
Which way you see it spinning is totally arbitrary, and if you stare at it long enough it will always appear to change direction even if you're not trying to change it. It's not hard to change it deliberately either - just close your eyes, visualise it spinning the other way, and open them again, and voila, it will be.

what throws me off is the reflection on the bottom of the image. You only see a reflection when her foot is in front of her and not when it is behind her.

And while I'm not saying that it definitely has, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it has been studied by psychologists.
Yes, with a bit of concentration one can make it switch directions, however I wouldn't doubt that there is a possibility that a correlation exists between which side of the brain you use more and which way the dancer is initially spinning.

I am not a psychologist. I can't claim to know whether there is any link between left or right brained-ness and the initial spin of the dancer, though I doubt it. Nonetheless I shouldn't reject the possibility out of hand, and rereading my other post it does sound like that.
What I doubt much more than the brain-spin correlation is that the article actually has any scientific basis; there is no "a study has shown...", no references or evidence cited at all. Nothing, even, to suggest that it hasn't been invented on the spot, or, worse, lifted from some "did you know?" site or viral email - which it could well have been.
Without any references it deserves no more credence than such things, and I'm certainly not inclined to give it any just because it's on a news site.

No matter what, I can only see the dancer rotating clockwise. I have been looking at it forever trying to understand how it could possibly be turning the other way, but I just can't do it!

Three of us watched the same image and saw her going different directions at different times.
So, whatever it "is"... it's still fun.

She only danced clockwise for me, as well. I had kinda hoped that would be the case, which may have biased how I perceived it. I'm proud of my right brainedness. :D
