Fromt the middle sixties in the UK Trimphone dials were lit with Tritium gas which was radioactive. When these phones went out of use in later years they were taken to a Nuclear establishment to be destroyed. You could not store more than a certain number together because of the danger so I don't see these lights going anywhere!

..and as an added bonus, anybody who stands near one of these lights for more than a day can throw out all of the lights in their house because they themselves will continue to glow for the rest of their lives! (which is about 2 weeks)

Tritium only gives off beta radiation, which won't go through skin.

You can buy tritium keyrings here. Nothing really scary about them.

And I changed the link to point to the actual article, rather than the blog that linked to the article.

I didn't see any spooky properties here, and Steve seems like a guy you'd want to have a beer with.

Correction: It won't go through ALL the layers of your skin. It can burn your skin. Alpha radiation can't penetrate skin. Both of them though, can harm you when ingested or inhaled...

To be fair though, I'm going to have to add regular light bulbs to the list of things that can harm you if inhaled or ingested - probably smaller doses are required over a smaller time too.

Also, I'm going to assume that I can burn your skin is a typo, and not a threat :)

True, true.
And I'll get around to correcting that. XD
