Are Humans Meant to be Monogamous?
Are Humans Meant to be Monogamous?
News of politicians' extramarital affairs seems to be in no short supply lately, but if humans were cut from exactly the same cloth as other mammals, a faithful spouse would be an unusual phenomenon. Only 3 percent to 5 percent of the roughly 5,000 species of mammals (including humans) are known to form lifelong, monogamous bonds, with the loyal superstars including beavers, wolves and some bats. picked by AutumnLotus 6 months ago

Nothing we do is natural.

-We live in houses made of brick and paper mache
-We have laws to prevent many of our most primal urges(rape, violence, theft)
-we surround ourselves with natural looking but completely synthetic modern 'conveniences'.

Short answer, no with a but...

Long answer, yes with a however...

No WAY were we meant to be monogamous. If we were, we would find ONE person and ONLY be attracted to them. We are animals, just like everything other animal. Period.

We will always look for better suited partners based on pre-existing criteria in our heads. We can't stop it, it will always happen, because marriage is not a natural thing nor is just dating one person. I'm all for it, but it's not our natural state.

We always think we're different from other animals, but we aren't.

Just remember, the fact that we have the word 'NATURE' means that we have forgotten where we come from.

ehh, that really cuts both ways. There are animals that are gay, there are animals that change gender, there are animals that clone themselves, and yes, there are animals that are monogamous, even after death. So, just because we are not the same as the the majority of animals doesn't mean we are behaving in a un-animal way.
