Is It Time To Give Up The Search For An AIDS Vaccine?
Most scientists involved in Aids research believe that a vaccine against HIV is further away than ever and some have admitted that effective immunisation against the virus may never be possible. picked by 2manyusernames 4 months ago

I've always wondered if they would ever be able to find a cure.

I mean, when you go to the doctor's and you have a virus, they just say that it'll go away eventually and you can't do anything about it.

So I would expect the same thing here about HIV...but it's sorta sad news.

Dear World,

It was nice working with you but I think it's time to take my money and head to a nice island in the Caribbean.

Sincerely,

AIDS Researchers

P.S. Wrap that rascal.

Actually, anti-viral medications have come a long way, in large part to the ongoing research into AIDS. They aren't handed out like candy, and that's a GOOD thing. Antibiotics aren't the cure-all they were once touted as in large part because they HAVE been handed out for so many things.

Medicine and science have been fighting ailments for so long, why does everyone expect a quick solution?

Virus diseases have been the bain of researchers
forever. Viral research is a hard, slow job but it has produced medications that give hope to the stricken.

One of the problems with the aids medications, one which actually is a cocktail of individual meds, it requires a prescribed application that eludes many of the uneducated particularly in third world countries.

In addition, some of their leaders have their own agenda regarding the cause of aids, mythical cures and an unfathomable resistance to Western medicines.

It has and will continue to cost large amounts in research as has cancer research. But as Maven said, improvements are there but there will probably never be an instant cure-all.

Some of our current problems with drug resistant diseases is due to the over prescription of antibiotics for viral diseases like the common cold.

Doctors should have known better.

Lemme put on my unfeeling eugenics a*****e hat...

Ahh there we go...letting go of that conscience and morals crap is liberating. We know how to prevent AIDS...we should try to educate anyone who will listen. We should offer protection. Religion should keep their feelings to themselves, because contreception in this case IS God's work. Our pharma companies can still make a mint selling retro-viral therapies to first world HIV victims, and make more of a mint developing new antibiotics to kill drug resistant bugs we once had under control. Afterall, AIDS is only a 3-5 year death sentence for the developing world, Magic Johnson is still lookin pretty good.

*removes hat*

EWWW I feel like I had decomposing mongoose on my head for the last paragraph, glad to have that damn thing off.

We were just talking about this at work yesterday. Magic has had AIDS for as long as I can remember!

Seems to affect mostly poor and third world countries the hardest.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Magic just HIV positive? The retrovirous HIV can lead to AIDS but not everyone with HIV develops AIDS.

I don't believe Magic has progressed into full blown AIDS, at least not yet.

No?

All the millions we donate to the African AIDS cause but no condoms. Unreal.

Yeah he is only HIV positive, and he is somewhat a poster boy for how proactive treatment can delay (or eliminate?) onset of AIDS. But he is also a multi millionare.
