Diamonds hint at 'earliest life'
Diamonds hint at 'earliest life'
Analysis of the crystals showed they contain a form of carbon often associated with plants and bacteria. The rare gems were found inside zircon crystals, formed a few hundred million years after the Earth came into being. picked by deEPCHIll 5 months ago

Interesting.

If the carbon was derived from primitive organisms, it would push back the date for life appearing on Earth by around 500 million years, to beyond 4.25 billion years ago. The Earth itself is just 4.6 billion years old.
No earth scientist believes life appeared on Earth a mere 500 million years ago. The presence of IF's, not to mention the Ediacaran fauna, evidence of life that is much older than 500 million years is taught in first year earth sciences.

In my humble, BSc level opinion, I think if the non-mantle d18O isotopes found in the Jack Hills zircons is taken in conjunction with the carbon isotope research summarized in the article, it is entirely possible to have had life on earth in the Hadean.

You misunderstood. It pushed back the date by 500 million to 4.25 billion.
