Dec 14th to be an Amazing Night Posted: 2 years ago by 2manyusernames
Last night there was an intense solar flare. This might cause Auroral activity far more intense than normal and reaching far more south and north than usual.
But wait! That's not all. The 13/14th will also be the date the Geminid Meteor Shower will peak with a possibility of more than a 100 meteors per hour!

Two more links to follow for this stuff:
Space weather
Space Environment Center
The last one has a pretty accurate real-time map of current auroral activity.

Damn the forests.
And damn the light pollution, too. I missed the last meteor shower because I couldn't drive far away enough fast enough.

My girlfriend was so excited to see the meteor shower last night but, in the big city lights, we only saw two. Glad to hear we might be able to catch some more! :)

Even when I would have seen this post yesterday, I still wouldn't have been able to see it, I live in the middle of the city in the most light poluted region on earth.(check out a night picture of earth and notice the lightball that belgium is) Maybe I should drive to rural france and have a look at all the lovely meteor activity that space provides. For the northern lights I think I'll have to drive way up north, since Holland is way light polluted too :(
