I don't know why, but I get a kick out of this story.

If you take the "a whole year's worth of grain into one tank" out of the equation, you're still left with the fact that we're using 30% more energy to produce the stuff. Even if the tractors, tankers, and all that were converted to Ethanol, you're still using more fuel, for the simple fact that it's less efficient.

"Cutting off our noses to spite our faces" isn't the right phrase, but it's the first one that comes to mind.
