...but the images on these sites are more violent.
I wonder how far that applies to regular porn as well?

Fantastic that they're doing in-depth studies into child porn statistics... that doesn't really do anything to stop child porn though.

But if we don't study it...we don't have an excuse to look at it...wait that came out wrong...
If we don't study it...we can't truly understand it...no that's not right either...
If we don't study it...then we can't get a grant for studying it! There that's my story and I'm sticking with it!

It would give you concrete evidence as to whether any action was needed.

Personally speaking I've never seen any child porn out there. I've seen a lot of regular porn, but no child porn.

I only have the word of the popular press and government bodies that it exists.

Before anyone goes spending my money to combat the problem I'd like to know how big the problem is.

I just don't think we need to bother with statistics or in-depth analysis when it comes to something as physically and emotionally traumatizing as child porn. If there's even one case, the problem is big enough.

I disagree, violently - spending millions/billions on a non-problem is dumb and pointless at best.

You need to know if it's a problem before you attack it.

You need to know what the problem is to know how to attack it.

And in general I find your attitude there terrifying.

Truly terrifying.

It's firebrands and pitchforks, kangaroo courts and dictators swept to power all rolled up into one.

I agree that spending money on a non-problem is ridiculous. But can we be honest with ourselves as a society? Is child porn a problem? Yes, it is.

My general concern is that, specifically in the case of child porn, although it needs to be studied to be understood, I'm afraid too much time, money and effort would be spent on analyzing and producing fancy reports than actually doing something to stop it.
