Being that I was in the Coast Guard and we no longer have sonar onboard our cutters, I have to agree with the Pentagon and the President on this issue. Training is of utmost importance. You cannot send these ships into harmful situations without actively training with the equipment. When we trained in San Diego there were specific places we could use the equipment.

Being that I was on a submarine, a Sub without sonar is like running around a crowded room being deaf and blind. Now I sure didnt want to hit anything when i was a few hundred feet underwater. that would have really ruined my day. so in some cases sonar is needed. but did the enviormentalists mention there were 2 different types of sonar. passave(which harms nothing) and active ( used on a sub right before they shoot a torpedo) active almost never gets used.

Being that I was on the Space Shuttle I would have to agree with the president. We used the Space Shuttle Enterprise sonar all the time. The next thing you know those damn tree huggin hippies would want us to get rid of our shields.

I propose we outfit all sealife except dolphins with aluminum foil hats.
