Hearing Aid Chic?? Posted: 8 months ago by blurmore
Are you one of those bluetooth wearing, "I'm super cool" douchebags that carry on coversations with themselves (seemingly) in the frozen food isle at the grocery store?? Ever think a hearing aid is stylish, would you ever wear one? Truth is, you may not be able to tell the difference.

I want to make a clarification here. In NJ, if caught talking on a cell phone you can be issued a ticket. I believe the fine is $250. For that reason, I wear a bluetooth headset while driving. I also get calls from my kids and parents all day long, so I frequently wear it around the house. The headset I bought is so small and lightweight that I often forget I am wearing it when I go somewhere. That said, I agree that there are "I'm super cool" douchebags that wear them for that reason, the rest of us just sometimes forget we even have them on.

I think they are cool. And I guess you could forget about it being there. Me, I would bothered by it. But forgetting it is there doesn't make you a douche bag....just a distracted and busy person who wonders why they are hearing voices and bells all the time.

The assistant principal at my school wears hers all the time. Even in her office...1 foot away from the phone. She has a device that lifts the phone receiver from the phone so she can talk into her little ear piece.

I was in Caribou today and instead of enjoying my coffee while grading papers, I had to listen to a one sided conversation about the housing market. Drove me nut.

It's amazing how we all managed to get along fine without cell phones for about 100 years. Now we cannot drive our car, make a trip to the market, walk down the street without one, bull. My parents never had one and you know what? Nothing happened. If they went somewhere they told me where and I could get them on a nearby phone if there was an emergency. I don't recall there being an emergency (except for the London Broil fire, but we also knew where the fire extinguisher was and the phone number to the pizza place, so that got resolved). I cannot understand why anyone thinks they need to be in constant contact. No wonder so many people are on prozac, no alone time at all.

I have a cell phone, it stays in my car, on the charger, it's rarely turned on (I can't be bothered). If I have an emergency, it's there.

I don't bring it into stores, I don't wander around with it. If you can't reach me, then call me later at home, or leave a message on my home machine and I'll call you later.

I hate cell phones.

Dolly,
Let me start by saying I TOTALLY respect your position on this, as well as your other posts on Plime. Your're one of my favorite posters, in fact :)
In my situation, I am divorced and only have my kids from every Friday afternoon until Monday morning, and usually at least one other day during the week they come over or I go to Karate practice/piano recital/basketball game/etc. That leaves a couple of days a week that I DON'T see them, and we talk on the phone quite often. I'm guessing your parents saw you every day? My parents are quite old (I... wasn't planned)and my dad is less than mobile and you wouldn't believe how often things come up. My dad's chair (one of the ones that lifts up to help him stand) breaks often (among other things) so I LIKE to be available and in touch. In my case, wearing the headset around the house or in the car comes in quite handy.
That said, there ARE times when I leave it in the car, or don't answer it and check the message later, for sanity's sake.
Just a different point of view, there is NO attitude or animosity intended with this reply :)

I wanted to get a headset so I could talk while I drove. Then I realised that in the 3 years I have lived in Engalnd noone has ever called me on my mobile.
