Those WoW players are surely a force to be reckoned with. Not really.

Yes, the WOW players are all dangerous terrorists, but they cannot be bothered to detonate any car bombs until they finish just "one more quest"...

---Yes, I have been one of them, at times---

The players, not terrorists.

really.

don't arrest me!

The Reynard project will begin by profiling online gaming behavior, then potentially move on to its ultimate goal of "automatically detecting suspicious behavior and actions in the virtual world."
How the f**k are they supposed to automatically detect "suspicious behavior and actions" in a virtual world?? IT'S VIRTUAL! NOT REAL! Role 'Playing'. I don't know about you guys, but I throw slanderous accusations on an hourly basis while blowing peeps up. Does that qualify as suspicious behavior? They must have some super AI alien Brain algorithm to sort out the suspicious from non-suspicious actions. That, or a random list generator, for how effective it'll be.

I swear, they make this s**t up just to see who buys it.

My theory is that they're using WoW and other MMO's as a testbed for the software. Look at how a person talks, then see if you can predict how he acts. If you can do that, all you have to do is apply the same software to realworld forums and you'll find hte people with the most violent tendencies to carry out their accusations.

For instance.. If you find someone who often uses :) and :P you'll see that they don't have as 'violent' a tendency and thus the software will label them as.. frivolous.

Someone else who constantly uses the word "Murder" "Rape" and "Teabag" is more likely to be a violent game player (PvP?) and it flags this person as.. questionable.

Now they go into a Real World Forum like.. Plime. They search for posters who post about "Rape", "Murder" "Teabag" and this will point them to people whose interests are in those categories.

It's a very simplistic explanation to what I'm hoping is very complicated language algorithms and psychological profiling based on the patterns which can be derived but the theory is sound.

As for using MMO's? Where else can we act out our basest truest self without any fear of retaliation or judgement? A person who is 'Motherly' and cares for others will tend to gravitate towards healing classes. A typical Type-A personality will move towards leadership roles. I'm sure there are also studies about what your Avatar says about you!

But then again...

I'm just guessing.
