The GameBoy That Survived The Gulf War Posted: 6 months ago by 2manyusernames
The original Game Boy is one of the toughest gadgets. Rumor has it this beige behemoth isn’t made of plastic, but from the skulls of fallen Gurkhas. If you ever saw one that was broken, it’s because it lost a boxing match with a nuclear bomb — on points.

Here is a Game Boy that was attacked during the Gulf War. It still works to this very day.

There are stories about people still owning the original Game Boy 30+ years after it debuted despite lots of all-around bashing to the system.
For some reason I don't think this article was that well researched. Makes me wonder about the rest ;)

I call bulls**t on this one because if the case got that badly burned up that it was sizzling (look at the bubble in the plastic) then there's no way the screen would have been untouched. I'm pretty sure that if the surrounding plastic got that hot the led screen would have been affected too.

Either someones just burned up the case then put the screen back in after to get a good story OR the GameBoy was bombed and someones put in a new screen and electronics.

Since it's sitting in the Nintendo store in New York, I would imagine they refurbished the machine.

Also, the story claims that people are still using the original Gameboy after 30+ years.

The Gameboy was invented in April 1989, less than 19 years ago.

And, the original Gameboy had a defect in which portions of the screen started dying. There was a recall in the mid-90's, where Nintendo had to replace all the screens.

Most original Gameboys were affected, as was mine.
