Users petition to keep Windows XP
Users petition to keep Windows XP
On June 30th, Micro$oft will pull Windows XP from store shelves. A bunch of people are kidding themselves that teh Gatesman will listen to their online petition.

Get ready for Vista everywhere you look.

Meh...I still use Windows 2000 at home. picked by moe 3 months ago

I see potential for a very lucrative business :)

Buy all the copies of XP at your store and then sell them after June 30th, when their lifespan ends :)

I don't mind Vista. Don't have it yet. The only negative things I've heard of Vista comes from the web. Those I spoke to who have Vista have not problems at all.

Plus, Vista's look was designed by a Dutch guy.

These 2 phrases are intricately linked.

I've got Vista on both my laptop and my main PC. On the laptop it sucks but on the PC it works very well. I guess microsoft are trying to tell us thatwe need top end machines to run Vista.

PS - I still dual boot with linux.

I have had Vista for almost a year now... and can't figure out where all the negative is coming from.

I think people are just afraid of change. It's not bad... it's not perfect, but it's not as bad as everyone seems to make it.

I have an Intel Mac, and I put Vista on it (Granted, it was a Beta 2 version), and Vista annoyed the Hell out of me. I took it off the computer after two days.

I don't have vista, but I have used it on other people's computers. I don't like it either. I'll stick with XP, thanks.

Not to say that XP is actually good, mind you. It's just the best version of Windows. If I could be sure that computer games would work under Wine, I'd switch to Linux in an instant.

I run Vista..I really don't see what all the complaining is about. It is sometimes a titch glitchy but I believe it's only because I need to purchase some more RAM for my PC. XP is inevitably going bye bye. Vista is here to stay. It will also be improved upon so...

I use Vista and I HATE it! I have a brand new laptop and because Vista uses so much ram, when I listen to music and "surf the net" at the same time, the music skips and freezes. I am going to be putting XP on here soon.
Plus, I still don't fully know how to use it. I can't even figure out how to remove programs through the control panel. But that could be because I am a bit challenged :P

ooOOOoo..I did not know about this. Man, they will be screwed in sales of Vista if more people realize that something in 2010 will be available.

Shame the dude didn't do any research before wasting his time - Microsoft themselves have said that XP will live on until at least 2010.

They really are pooping themselves about a) the unpopularity of Vista and b) the growth of low end systems like the Asus Eee shipping with Linux pre-installed.

There's no way that they can scale resource hungry Vista down to fit on one of these, so their options are to either step away from that lucrative market and hand it over to Linux or to keep XP (or XP Starter Edition as they are planning to rechristen it) alive.

History will consign Vista to the same vault of embarrassment as ME and Bob, and if MS are actually on track to release Longhorn the next version of Windows in 2010, their marketing machine will start to spin into action very soon indeed.

I have to say that I've recently changed to dual boot between XP and Vista Ultimate. Other than some driver issues that any newly installed OS will have, Vista has worked like a charm. After a couple more weeks of testing, I think I'll make the move over to Vista 100%. I can't speak about ownership before SP1, but at this point, Vista is not nearly as bad for a desktop OS as people have been saying.

That said, there is no conceivable reason to put it on a laptop. It's just too greedy to be useful. I'm in total agreement with Pocksucket as well since I own an Asus EEE laptop and it's the greatest thing made ever.

Well, do note that there is a way to 'revert' the Vista desktop into a simulated XP desktop, for the people who prefered that look.

Personally, I never used XP... skipped it and stuck with 98 for waaaaaaaay too long. Vista's big difference is that it's "pretty"... like a Mac. Beyond that, I just don't see a big difference.

I also have a computer with Linux on it... and to be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan. There are all these subtle little things that are "different" for the sake of being "different." I dunno... just doesn't wow me.

Jealous.

It's on my techno-toy list to get, but I haven't got round to it yet.
