I can't imagine running something like that 24/7. If I were a parent, I would protest that it made the building unwelcoming to my kids.

I read about this in the paper this morning. Interesting technology but, while it will drive away the shifty and obviously "unwelcome" youth, it does nothing about the older folks who may be harassing, vagrants or gun-wielding robbers.

Yah.

The problem with this is, that I, a 27 year old male, can ALSO hear that freaking noise. You know, not everyone has got their hearing degraded during their teens.

I've listened to those before and it doesn't effect me at all.

And I'm 17 next week.

I have the same problem, also as a 27 year old male.

However, florescent lights have the same effect on me, the noise is annoying as heck.

Teens can (and will) walk away if they can hear it, but little kids in their strollers will be subjected to the noise their moms are not aware of, and are unable to walk away.

Other than being extremely irritating, they don't know what effect it has on your hearing if you are subjected to it for a longer period of time.

Way to (possibly) damage little kids hearing and drive them mad at the same time.

Those things are really annoying and some older women can still hear them.
Also dogs will go apes**t.

Also I would have no problem smashing one or hitting it with a BB gun a few times if it really bugged me that much.
(not that I am a destructive kid but seriously these things are ridiculous)

Yea, the first thing I thought of was that movie.. maybe mr hollands opus.. where the band teacher had a kid and as a baby an ambulance or siren of some type went off and the baby couldn't cover his ears and ended up being deaf.. good movie by the way..

Well these things aren't really that bad. If you're just passing by an area, say on your way inside, you might say, "Hmm what was that?"

Its only if you are loitering in the area that it becomes annoying enough to drive you away. And thats the whole idea, to get rid of loiterers, who are usually kids.

I like the idea of disabling them with a BB gun. I can just picture some one say "No officer i didn't shoot it, its still working just fine. What do you mean you cant hear it?"

So how do officials check to see if they are working if they can hear it?

I'm 37 and can also hear this "only teens can hear it" noise. Fortunately I am not the sort to loiter anywhere.
