Comcast hates Plime addicts
Comcast hates Plime addicts
Starting in October, the broadband provider will limit subscribers to 250 gb of internet activity monthly. That's the equivalent of 62,500 song downloads, 125 movie downloads, or refreshing your Plime page a mere 50 million times to see if anyone upvoted your story on dryer lint. picked by Wingnut 3 months ago

Time to switch providers I guess.

To be fair though, 250 GB is a bit much per month for one comp.

That might work for some people, but I'm sure I use more than that.

I'm on youtube so much, that's the problem.

The interesting point brought up in the article is that they will NOT be providing a means of tracking your usage. Surely THEY have a way to do it, or they couldn't enforce their rule. Why not provide this to the customer?

Back when they were keeping the limit a secret, I thought it was around 90 gigs.

250 is immense. I doubt you'll get that just from YouTube. Its something like 4 feature length DVD movie downloads a day...

Unfortunately, the limit that we can download from usenet is still 2 gigs a month.

Fortunately you still have Usenet. Roadrunner dropped it completely. Luckily I have my giganews account. I'd say I go over 250 gigs every other month, and that is only on one of the four computers in our house. It is really easy to download a ton with a 15 mbit downstream.

I know, I broke the first rule of Usenet: You don't talk about Usenet.

Over here in Belgium, every ISP has limits on the amount of traffic you can use per month. The big providers offer 20GB for a normal subscription. The 'big' plans offer a whopping 60GB!!

If you go over the limit, you can buy extra volume (about 1€ per GB). Otherwise your speed is throttled to 400kbps.

I don't know exactly how high my download cap here is in the Netherlands. I think it is unlimited. But then again, the Netherlands is the one of the frontrunners in Europe concerning the web.

what
the
hell.

It's not a big deal to folks just surfing... but I play Second Life. Nothing is pre-rendered... i could blow through that easily playing. And that's just ME. Not to mention my roommate also plays SL, and WoW, and I stream music 24/7 off of one of my other computers.

Not to mention the 300 DVDs he's downloaded and burned since he got his new computer...

*panics*

Maybe if everyone calls their service line at least once a day to ask how much bandwidth they've used so far, they'll get the idea of how much we love this.
