My family's own trip to New Zealand (in 1999 or was it 2000?) was absolutely fantastic because we travelled (and stayed) in a camper.

We selected the type of camper and did the financial deal while passing through Sydney, Australia. Then collected the camper in Auckland, NZ. Travelled a route through North Island, used a ferry to get onto South Island, of which we saw less, unfortunately, drove over Arthur Pass as snow started to fall. (No rpoblems yet, but it was closed for traffic the next day.) And then we handed returned the camper in Christchurch, from where we departed from that beautiful country.

There are very good roads and a very good variety of campsites. My own favourites were the ones with almost no facilities, but where one was almost alone (sometimes really alone) in some fantastically beautiful spot by a lake, in a forest or in the shadow of a mountain.

If there is one holiday in my life that I would like to repeat, that would be it. Next time for more than 2 weeks, though!
