Staycations? A vacation without the travel... Posted: 5 months ago by Maven
Gas prices are busting many people's travel budgets, resulting in more and more looking to vacation locally.

The concept is good, but I dislike the phrase 'staycation.' What kind of things could you do locally?

in minnesota you can:
go fishing
go swimming
go to an amusement park (we have a few)
go to the zoo
visit the conservatory
visit the science museum
visit an art museum (we have several)
go camping at a nearby state park
go see the cars on back to the 50's nights in downtown st. paul
go berry picking
ride a paddleboat down the river
visit the transportation museum and ride an old steam train, or steam ferry or street car.
go bike riding or walking

i guess it all depends on what you consider a good time or how big your budget is....

I've been doing this forever. We rarely actually go anywhere when we vacation. We opt to spend the week at home, BBQ, catch up on sleep and rent a couple movies...

Now that we have kids, we toss in a trip to the zoo or wildlife sanctuary and go out for pizza one night.

I have to agree with Maven, though. The term "staycation" leaves a lot to be desired.
