« BrownTrout : I've been in two helicopter accidents myself and the funny thing is that you don't really get freaked out by it until you have time to sit down and think about what happened.

Getting out and carrying on with your work is the BEST thing you can do.

So glad the crash wasn't ugly and all you have is a good story to tell!!

Just out of curiosity - did your helo have a crew chief aboard or were you guys the only ones in the back?
It's really nice to hear someone say I'm normal and fine to not be too freaked out. Thanks, Browntrout.

We didn't have a crew chief aboard, since it was a small job and a small helicopter. My boss, the other geologist, was in the front giving directions and I was the only one in the back.

We had to wait about an hour for a float plane to arrive with the engineer (it was supposed to "rescue" us, too, but we decided to keep given'er. But, with the tail rotor in splinters scattered across the esker, we knew that machine was staying put for a while. Now we have to find another heli to sling it out..... the waiting continues!

« TraumaMamma : WELL *I* cut my hand while cutting a bagel in two, with a huge knife yesterday.

I didn't have time to go get stitches as I had to be at work. It finally stopped bleeding after 16 hrs or so. I had to type with that hand and everything at work!!

I am going to have a nasty scar.

I guess THAT story pales in comparison to your "helicopter" story.

*note to self...never hold a bagel in the palm of your hand and cut it with the other hand with a huge serated meat knife. Ya know, the kind with the prongs at the end of it where you can poke the meat to serve it?

/kicks ground and mumbles "You win, you Badass Chick!"
TM, you're forgetting Boyscout Rule #1, or maybe #13, or maybe #24... I don't know.

Always cut away from yourself!

I hope the scar isn't too nasty. I find lavender oil reduces scarring, sometimes.

OK

IcePigs had a heart attack
Chinook had a helicopter crash

These things come in threes and apparently begin with the letter H, so I want everyone to be extra careful around such objects / activities / people. Let's not make a Plime version of the Gashlycrumb Tinies

Chinook...amazing story. So glad you all were uninjured. Most days we all take our personal safety for granite. It is nice to have a reminder that we shouldn't, and especially nice to have one that we walk away from unharmed.

And I sliced my thumb open installing a network switch in a rack at work on Friday. No time to bandage it because user's were complaining they needed to get back on the network to get their email. So I just bled all over the switch closet.

Oh 'Nooks, that is nuts! I had a feeling this would be on here somewhere after I read your email.

I'm glad you're okay. I've been in a few crashed helicopters and planes, and where possible I like to just continue with my day, but only after a few minutes of saying "oh s**t" and snapping a few pics.

Are you nervous to fly in them again? Did you seriously spin around a few times before stopping? You are one seriously lucky girlie, I hope you know that.

We haven't caught wind of this incident yet, but I'm giving it until the end of the day. For a desolate place, news sure spreads like wildfire across the north. There's been too many accidents and incidents already this year with helicopters - make sure you stay safe, eh?

edit: The ads on the side are all fear of flying ads. That's hilarious.
