WTF are shadow people? I won't make fun of you but I can't stop what others might write.

Unfortunately, Voodoo is gone. But there are a few other sane people here, so you never know.

I'd like to read your story! I used to see shadow people when I was younger. I'm not sure if I shared about the one that scared me and my infant daughter, or not, so I'll check this thread later and post it if I haven't.

I believe shadow people are figments of the imagination.
I see them all the time when I stay up for more than 24 hours.

I feel about ghosts the same way Mersh feels about religion. I'll believe it when you prove it to me, and those ghost shows on TV don't count.

well, i haven't seen a unanimous definition of shadow people/creatures, but the common traits of shadow people is the appearance of a person, seen only in silhouette, mostly male and muscular, either naked or clothed, with shiny red eyes and glowing white teeth. shadow creatures are similar, but mostly appearing in the shape of a dog, headless, but still having the red eyes. in almost all cases, the shadow person/creature is very aggressive and dangerous.

i'd like to make it clear, here and now, that i'm not convinced that i had been experiencing paranormal things. i'm not even sure i've been encountering shadow things; all personal accounts i've read about them have been near life-threatening; but i've never felt threatened by my encounters, nor have them appeared to be aggressive. but calling them anything different than shadow creatures doesn't really fit. i've read things like sleep paralysis being confused with being attacked by a witch, so i can accept that my encounters were more mundane like a lapse in spatial awareness or whatever. i just wish i could more clearly identify my encounters as actual encounters with shadow things, or as brain farts.

i've had about six encounters in a 10 year period, with the shortest timespan between them about 8 months. it's been about 2 years since the last one. all of them has happened between 3am and dawn, and all of them have woken me from sleep. the encounter that sticks out the clearest in my mind would be the second one:

i was aroused from sleep with the sensation of the blankets tightening around my ankles. i didn't think much of it at first, as i recognized it as my two cats climbing up on my bed from the footboard. but then i realised that by that time, all my cats has long since died or dissappeard, and the foot of my bed is flush against the wall.

besides feeling and twitching, i was paralyzed from moving, and i'm sure my eyes were open, but i couldn't see a thing - i keep the hall light on and my door cracked open, so there was enough light that i could have seen anything. so i couldn't do anything as the cat entities continued to walk on the bed, either side of me, up to my head.

when they reached my shoulders, i was then able to move my right arm - so i lifted it up and grabbed the head of the cat thing on the right. i couldn't clasp my fist tight at all, but it was enough to take hold of the creature. it didn't feel like i was holding anything, but the creature was still tugging and shaking to free itself of me. all i felt of it was the jerks, and one canine tooth pushing in on the corner of my palm. i let go after about five seconds of that; both of them jumped off the bed, to my left, towards the open room. on it's way, the cat that was on my right brushed across my chest, giving me a good bump. i was then able to sit bolt up and see my room; of course, i couldn't see the creatures, or any evidence that they were here.

Sounds like you have experienced something called sleep paralysis. Essentially you are dreaming while awake. Your body is still pumping out chemicals that paralyze you and you experience hallucinations. The hallucinations are more real than regular dreams because they are superimposed on your reality.

I had experienced the same thing years ago. The difference is, I knew what sleep paralysis was and how to awaken myself from it (moving your eyes back and forth rapidly). My twin brother and I have similar sleep problems. We both have nighttime hallucinations. We sense evil presences and see men bust into our bedrooms. melgesevad used to have night terrors as a child. Like sleepwalking but more intense.

You recognize the possibility that your experience could be sleep paralysis, but I'm convinced that it is.

i have found info about sleep paralysis after some research i made after the first few encounters. though, i've never had anything like the encounters or sleep paralysis before i moved to indiana, ten years ago (i'm 23 now). i've lived in the same house the whole time. overall, i think i've had sleep paralysis very rarely, but how do i know when it's a condition that would need a diagnosis or treatment?

the article you linked mentioned that sleep paralysis happens after lucid dreams; that makes sense, as i get very lucid dreams very frequently, and i remember having a lucid dream before some of the encounters. however, never has any of the dreams or encounters have been horrifying for me ... i'm not easily scared, anyways.

I had that once...years ago. Was definitely some scary shat.

I wonder why it's always scary and never good? I wonder why people that are schizophrenic never have good voices telling them to do good things??...ahh, the mysteries of life.

Is this the same thing as the "Old hag" or "old lady syndrome"? B/c I there was a few nights a while back where I was awoken from a dream and I was completely sober and i felt like someone was in the room with me and I knew they were there and that they werent good. and I couldn't move or sit up or anything and I remember trying to Cry out and yell for my mom or brother but it was like my mouth was completely dry and nothing but a whisper would come out eventually I slid off the bedand hit the floor and imediatly jumped up and ran towards the front of my house waking up everyone. The same thing happened to me maybe 3 or 4 times and I began researching it and came up with

My house is over 100 years old and me my brother and my mom have seen a little white girl in different rooms in my house, always just random glimpses and laughing noises or crying, very rarely screaming at night. But I asked my mom about it finally and It turns out that my great grand father bought my house from a Older white guy that had 12 kids or something like that and one of the girls and some of the other children died in my house before they moved. It creeps me out.. theres a weird cellar thingy attached to my basement with a big ass door that locks from the inside only and another big wooden door in a concrete and cement wall in my basement thats just a really dark room that we've never gone in with old rusty tools hanging by the door. and some weird carvings etched into it. Maybe I should go explore it finally.

The things I've always called "shadow people" don't have eyes or teeth. They always did feel malevolent, but only a few times did I feel truely threatened by them. They looked like a shadow of a man, without the man attached, except that they could pass in front of things, and keep their shape, not distorting against objects, or disappearing in front of windows.

I almost always saw the shadow people during the day, when I was wide awake.

As a kid they seemed to be following my mother. I would most often see them in/entering/leaving her bedroom. After I moved out of her house, at age 18, I only saw one, but it was the most threatening of all.

I don't have time to tell the story now, but I'll write it out in the next day or so.

While I do believe in ghosts and the paranormal, I also have a feeling that most of the encounters that are had are the result of paranoia or fear of the unknown.

I think we mistake coincidence for spirits and look for answers and create them in places where there are none.

Im still waiting to have a decent ghastly encounter though.

One of my closest friends told me this story, I've changed names to preserve anonymity.

Many moons ago (about 20 or so years) My friends grandmother awoke in the night to see a ghost of her recently deceased friend standing in her room.

The ghost spoke to her and said this "Jane (My friends mother) is pregnant, she's going to have a girl on the 15th march and she will call her Louise mary smith" upon which the appirition vanished. The grandmother wrote this down put it in an envolope, sealed it and forgot about it.

Lo and behold on the 15th march that year a baby girl was born and named and the grandmother opened the envelope. It was spot on.

My friend still has the piece of paper and his mum confirmed the story to me. (The baby was his sister)

Now I know people will not believe this and i myself am not sure about it, Yes the 'ghost' could have been a dream. What intruiges me the most is that the ghost/dream/hallucination was dead on with the prediction. I've often wondered about this.

My mother and I driving home late one night saw what looked like a star. The thing is it kept getting brighter and brighter over the span of about 5 seconds until it just disappeared. The thing got pretty insanely bright and I would have thought I had a brain tumor or something but my mom saw it too. It was the coolest and freakiest thing ever. After a few years of thinking about what it could be I'm guessing it was a dying star. (This being thought of after seeing The Fountain so it's not like I'm a scientist) Somewhere in the back of my head I still think it was a UFO.
