I had never heard of the sky burial. I understand the desire to have your body disposed of that way, but I can't imagine being one of the people watching, or worse, doing the ritual...

The foot binding picture made me wince. I had never realised it was so bad - as ever, the name is a euphemism, disguising the brutality of the practice.

Binding makes it sound slow, and having your feet tied up in silk can't be that bad, right?

I had no idea the toes were broken in the process. And again I think that's slightly euphemistic. From the photo it looks like the foot was snapped in half.

I think the self-mummification was the worst. Six years of eating bark, sap and roots and then locking yourself in a stone box to starve to death. Yeeowch...*Cringes*
