20 Gnarliest Torture Devices of All Time

Protestants themselves suffered under many of these devices for their own beliefs.
And the people who used them are long dead.

I'd apologize for it if I could.

well said! I don't know any 'christians' today that would use these devices. I don't know of any torture devices like these condoned in the bible either. so I wouldn't say it's a 'Christian' practice. simply evidence of the barbaric corruption of the time

It's not. It's the "church" who got into power and decided they liked it. The real part of christianity, they decided, didn't work for them, so they made their own, with them on top.

Unlimited power would make tyrants and psychopaths of us all, religious or not.

About half of them are execution methods, not torture. Yes, torture could and often did kill the victim, but it was usually intended to get a confession of some sort. Burning and quartering were to kill you, no confession needed (or possible).

My issue is with Christians (and other religion zealots) who can commit truly heinous acts and justify it as "God's Will."

It may not be torture today, but it's protesting soldier's funerals. It's blowing up abortion clinics. It's refusing blood transfusions so that your children will grow up without a mother.

I don't mean to offend all Christians, just those that try to justify what I'm certain the Bible says not to do.

back in the good ole' dark ages, they had real punishments, now we just slap on the wrist. Harsh punishment is a big deterrent.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I've still have some Post-Traumatic Stress from the Nuns that battered me senseless in my youth.

If it's any conciliation, Israel's Mossad, while under the leadership of their future Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, developed a slew of NEW horrifying torture techniques and exported them to sympathizers globally. Not an easy task, as so many, many, many have already been developed throughout history as it stands...

You know, Jehovah's Witness actually isn't Christian. It's not even close. It's really more of a cult.

I think if anything, it is proof that it isn't a deterrant. If people still commited these crimes knowing the punishments for them, what hope does any society have for a crime free enviroment.
