The Something Store
The Something Store
This is how the website describes their service:

We will send you something, an item selected randomly among many things from our inventory, for $10 (free shipping) and you will find out what your something is when you receive it.

I'm actually tempted to try it! picked by doggylives 4 months ago

I kinda like the idea of this but I have a sneaky feeling you're just gonna get crap.

I know...stuff is constantly jumping in my cart. it's so weird. I follow the list and yet, when I get home, mysteriously there is a whole bag of stuff I know I didn't put in my cart.

While in New Orleans a few years ago one of the panhandlers I was talking to told me I should head down to the Tourist Info Center and pick up my "complimentary something".
Apparently they would give away dinner cruises up the river and things like that, but it was my last day and I didn't have time to see if it was some kind of jip or not.

I kinda want to try. I love surprises! Of my two favorite exclusions, madhatteraggie posted one, and the other is:

Endangered or regulated species
Plants, animals, or other organisms (including product derivatives) in danger of extinction or whose trade is otherwise regulated by law

Woot.com does this from time to time as well. Their mystery bags sell out super fast.

I just placed an order as well. Most of their "previously sent" items seem to be neat stuff and even worth more than $10. Plus I figure if its something I don't like I can pawn it off as a gift for my wife >_>

I was just thinking.. Oh, it's a "bag of crap" but for the sad beans who didn't get in on it during the woot off.

Naaah. I want to earn my BOC the hard way.

WOOT!

Interesting idea. It is tempting, will probably give it a shot myself.

We could even do something similar here. Take names/addresses. Randomly and anonymously mix them up so everyone sends $10 or equivalent denomination and everyone gets "something" picked by a plimate.

I have seen street vendors at markets throughout the Netherlands and beyond use that sales trick. You simply agree not to open the box until you are well away from the vendor's table.

The two times that I bought something this way myself I was quite pleased with the items I ended up with. It was good value for the money.
