Tell people not to think of a white bear for five minutes, and chances are they won’t be able to get polar bears out of their heads. picked by goldy 2 years ago

""Don't think of a white bear" is a famous psychological experiment in which subjects are asked to NOT think of a white bear for the next five minutes, and ring a bell each time they do."

Seems like a flawed experiment since the BELL sitting right there will make people think about the white bear.

thats an interesting experiment, i know i couldn't do it. I just wonder, what does it prove, besides that we are not as in control as we think we are?

Perhaps this just shows how aware humans are subconsciously aware of the little things, such as polar bears, or how simple objects such as the bell are related to other things.
