Not a very good time for a joke, that's for sure.

I'm a practical joker. I joke all the time. I mean ALL the time. Even when I'm being serious I slip a few wise cracks in. But during a wedding ceremony? That's just uncouth. You can't expect the minister, or whoever, to continue to with the ceremony if you are not serious about it. Marriage is a serious commitment. Joke freelance if you want to joke, but when they say "do you take this man (or woman)" you can't say "no" and then laugh it off.

I made cacks at my wedding, but with jokes timing is everything. I cracked jokes as I waiting for the old lady to start walking down the aisle. They were little stress relief jokes. Not "No I don't take this b***h to be my wife".

Aside from that, saying "no" to the ultimate question in the ceremony isn't even funny. It's like one of those crazy uncle jokes that's only humorous to the crazy uncle. "Pull my finger" and "I got your nose" are the calibur of jokes I am talking about here. Don't get me wrong, "I got your nose" is great for babies, and "pull my finger" is a classic, but they don't work with all audiences, and at certain ages and in certain situations they absolutely should not be told.

Okay, I'll stop there since I'm straying a bit.

Just one last thing, I'm glad the minister (or whatever) refused to perform the ceremony, perhaps she'll learn from this. And I hope the groom was stupi pissed with her.

Tell us how you really feel, DEP ;) (Actually, I agree with you 100%)

/me puts finger on in middle of DEP's chest.

"Hey, what's this?"

It's my understanding that marriage officials *can't* carry on the cerimony when someone answers incorrectly. There are several hoops that have to be passed - you can take any path you like through them, straight or all around the houses - but you must pass through them. I believe someone saying they have an objection to the wedding at the appropriate (or not) time will have the same effect.

I've been married twice. Divorced twice. I wish I had said 'no' at least once.

Hahaha.
Oh, come on. If you've been divorced twice I'm sure you've said "no" at *least* once. :)

Isn't the whole ceremony thing just for show anyway? All that matters is the paperwork saying you're married or not, right? I'm not married so I'm not sure.

That is the financial bit... I know several married couples who are not legally married because the get more on their tax returnes. I also know a couple who has gotten married at least six times... I don't know if they're legally married.

also "the show" part is religious as marrage is one of the 7 sacraments for catholics

just like a divorce is different than an anollment (i think thats the right word)

a divorce is legal and an anollment is like the religous people saying its ok you divorced but i hear anollments are hard to get

Disclaimer:
None of that may be right but,
im pretty sure it is
