Man pays electric bill with pennies Posted: 9 months ago by kakana
“I called some nearby banks to see if I could exchange cash for pennies,“ Almany said. “We got all the way to the w’s in the phone book. One bank gave me $170 in pennies and the other $123.“

So what is the value of his time calling all of those banks, collecting the coins and hauling them down there, then bickering with the poor rep at the counter (on top of the $350.00 electric bill itself).
...and in the end - he's doing nothing to reduce his electricity consumption and will probably wind up with ANOTHER $300+ bill next month (he hasn't changed "anything").
Verdict: Just another dumbass (and his brother) seeking 15 minutes of fame.

I've posted my tales of inconvenience and woe that have been imposed upon me by the water company in the past year. I have to admit, this made me rub my palms together and go "Mwah ha ha ha."
But it sounds like this guy didn't do it for those reasons, he just did it to be all "LOOKATME." Which makes it not as dastardly and clever.

Should have done it with $2 bills...it makes for a better story because a lot of Americans don't know they exist.

« Interesting : Should have done it with $2 bills...it makes for a better story because a lot of Americans don't know they exist. There's no such thing as $2 bills. (I kid). Last year I did have an overwhelming electric bill of $800. well that could not have been right. I called them right away. Turns out the meter had been misread. Now with a digital thermostat and adjusting the temps to the degree we brought it down to below $200. The penny idea made me laugh, but I think you're all right. "Look at me!"
