English is my mother tongue, although je parle francais et ich spreche Deutsch.

My grandmother taught me a bit of Cree when I was a kid, but my skills have faded substantially. If I move back out to prairies, I'm definitely going to spend much more time with her to get it back.

We have massive variations in pronunciation between different regions. Ladytron is from Liverpool and I think that's what you're hearing there. It's kind of difficult to spell phonetically, but it would be along the lines of eh-neh-tin, with the "eh" sounding like "egg". So you're friend might be from somewhere around Liverpool, or maybe Manchester.

I speak English, French, and Indonesian fluently, as well as a little Spanish, a touch of Latin, and some German as well. Well, enough to say ein bier, bitte.
My first phrase of Spanish that I learned was "sale del carro con los manos arriba". Suffice it to say I had an interesting languages teacher. Had I stayed in Indonesia, I would have ended up learning Arabic as well, but I am now in Canada, where not many people speak it, so... yeah.
A'salam'a'laikum
(Can't really spell it, but I know how it's pronounced...)

Haha. Well you're already doing better than most people I know that think they know how to curse in German and insist that scheisster is a curse word.

All you need to do is ask if you want to know something, I'm sure suckersklub is just as willing to help so you can probably bug him as well.

I can say with every confidence that since I've been on Plime I still only speak English.

I can read and understand way more Spanish than I can speak, especially if it's spoken slowly to me (like you'd talk to an idiot). So I learned to say "much slower please" in Spanish ("mas despascio por favor", not sure I spelled it correctly and too lazy to look it up).

I can count to 10, say "excuse me" and "bathroom please" and "what are you up to?" in German. I can also swear like a sailor in German (old German though, thanks Grandma!)

I can say the worst phrase you can say in Farsi. I can say a few naughty words in Norwegian.

And thanks to the swearsaurus, I can add to my collection of potty-mouthed phrases and words in hundreds of languages.

That should get my point across.

My mouth primarily uses English. Occasionally it'll use German, but there's rarely an ear around to use it with. The hands are English-only, as are the eyes.

American English, Noo Yawker style my #1 language. But like dolly, I am can understand and read spanish quite well, as long as the speaker speaks mas despacio, por favor. At one time I was conversant. I've held 3 way conversations where someone spoke to me in spanish, I answered in English, and the third party translated back to spanish.

I took one unfortunate term of German in high school. My teacher, a former spanish teacher of mine, took pity on me when I answered test questions in German, Norwegian and Spanish. She told me to forget German, concentrate on Norwegian and Spanish.

I've been brushing up on my Norwegian the past year (my mom's from there). I can follow a conversation, but can't really respond well. Thankfully, they almost all speak English, but I'm still practicing.

And, I know the sign language alphabet and some ASL signs - I grew up with deaf next door neighbors.

And thanks again dolly, for the link to the Norwegian curses.

Russian is my #1 language, but I also speak fluent Romanian. In addition I think that my English is pretty good (at least for the country I live in). I also took German classes and ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch, aber ich glaube meine Deutch ist nicht so gut als englisch oder rumanisch. (hope I said it right).

« muppet : no pocksie, no. well, maybe it is different in different parts of england? my friend is british(i don't know where from exactly) but she moved to the US when she was 10 and lost her accent. i noticed, however, that she says, "anything" differently. i thought maybe it was just a quirk of hers, but i heard this song and am convinced it is a british thing.

go here:

listen to the first 30 seconds of the song, "destroy everything you touch" (it is number one in top track, last week). you can hit the tiny play button next to the song. listen to the line "anything that may desert you...". it is the second line in the song. it sounds something like, "eh-neh-thin" but for some reason, i can't physically say it.

though i find charm in all accents i come across, i am particularly fond of british and canadian accents. i wish i could travel across the two nations to hear all of the accents. i love all the different accents across the US. i've always wondered if people outside of america thought we sounded charming. maybe american southern accents sound cool to people in lithuania or something. or maybe fargo-esque accents sound cool to people in zimbabwe. who knows.
I have live just outside liverpool for 3 years now but I still have a strong scottish accent. i don't findf anything different about the way she says anything. How do you pronounce anything? en-ee-thing looks good enough to me.

My native language is Dutch, I can speak English,
and I can read German, but can't speak or write German.

I used to know a nice amount of French, but someone stole my complete French vocabulary I'm afraid...can only think of how to order a red wine in French now, and that sucks when you want a beer
