«wags273 : Next time someone gives you S**T Mandolin call me on your cell phone and hand them the phone, I'll pull the telephone tough guy on them. And they'll be the one who's crying.
The other day I was walking McGruff downtown. It was morning and there were few people out.
Unfortunately, one of those people was this guy.
Him: Get that f**king Pit Bull away from me!
Mind you, McGruff wasn't even looking in his direction. We encounter people who are afraid of him based on his breed fairly often, and I'm normally polite. But this man spoke in such a hateful and disrespectful manner to me - a complete stranger- and I didn't like that.
Me: f**k you!
Him: That thing's a killer!
Me: You know what? You're just an ignorant old a*****e. And you're ugly too.

I'm kind of a smart ass for those of you who haven't noticed. It gets me into and keeps me out of trouble. I'm not really violent, although if it came down to it, I wouldn't have a problem doing whatever I thought was necessary to protect myself or inhibit my aggressor.
Usually though, I find that sarcasm is the way to go. They're not sure which way you meant it, they're satisfied with whatever it is you say because they don't recognize sarcasm, and you're fine with what you've said, because you do. Win-win.
(Edit- this is especially useful when dealing with clients, customers, general day to day strangers)
