« rambler : I really hope that there is a future when we can all just accept who/how we are: White, black, yellow, part-Cree, or 10% Viking or 2% Maori or whatever, be proud of our heritage, recognise and remember the bad things our ancestors did to each other, and still live together peacefully and respectfully into the future. I know this furure will not start tomorrow, but I keep hoping for it.
Regardless of our opinions of the subject of this thread, I think that's something we can all agree on. Well said, Rambler.

I love exams too. And lecture classes with *good* lecturers.

My college mascot was "The Fighting Indians"

But uh, I went to a tribal school so that's probably a bit different..

I think it's a different story in Alaska, but here if you call an Inuk an Eskimo, it's akin to calling an African a Ni***r. It's not an ethnonym, it was a term given to them by white guys who thought they were smart. It's deeply offensive, and considering the way they were treated by whites over the last two centuries, I can completely understand why.

In about 10 more generations thanks to interracial marriage and baby-making most of the world will be the same race, brown. So lets just go ahead and get over any sort of racism now.

I expect my brown babies will be very cute and they probably won't know what to put down on their various paperworks under race.

This is completely confusing.

What about "Inuit?" Is this acceptable. In a cultural Anthropology course in college we learned to call the native population this. Eskimos were what you'd call an Inuit from Alaska. I think I'm terribly wrong.

A local high school (Esko) has the team name of Eskomos. Note the cleaver mispelling of Eskimos.

A little farther south there is a high school with the team name of "the Bombers". After 9-11 some people thought this innapropriate. They still have it.
