« smarty1052 : I dive into the water and begin swimming out to the other boat.. I know I can't pull a viking longboat onto the beach by myself but I'm pretty sure i'm an expert swimmer.. plus if i get tired I can just let my dog pull me.
OK Smarty...you get about halfway out there and feel a tug on your waist. You look back and your dog is trying to head back to shore.

Not wanting to jeopardize his life, you decide to head back as well. You get on shore and folks are talking about waiting until high tide and stuff.

As you look around at the beach and waterlines on the rocks and such, you can pretty much confirm that right now is the highest the tide gets here on this tiny island far away from any continental shelf.

It is 4:00 pm

As you all discuss this, MurderousKitty (now a puppet) says "Well if this is the highest it gets, maybe we can walk out to it at low tide and drag it in away from the rocks"

That would roughly 12 hours from now.

I begin to pray to Ægir, the sea god and ask that the solution be shown to us as they have been thus far.

OK well MBK your prayer lasts approximately 11 hours.

When you look up, you see the tide has gone out and you can walk about a third of the way out to the boat.

Smarty unties his dog and swims the rest of the way. He climbs on the boat and looks around. It is not damaged and from what he can see, it could be pushed off with not much trouble. A couple others swim out there and get the boat loose. You tie some rope to the boat and four or five others on shore are able to pull the boat in closer and away from the rocks. Now it can be piloted with rowers out of the cove and back to the other boats.

If you had tried this at high tide, the boat would have caught current and either smashed on the rocks just past where was, or drifted away with only Smarty onboard.

So you all get the boat back to your landing spot, grab some shut-eye and it is now 9 am the next day.

And people say religion is a lost cause.

After 11 hours of tedious work I finally managed to thatch a roof on the first shelter, have built a table(no chairs yet sorry), and am halfway through the second shelter. I stop and turn to SEG and say "Lets rest for a bit. I'll get the fire pit going and start cooking some food for everyone while you set up the table. See if you can also find something for us to sit on."

For the sake of helping you guys out, I'm posting this quote of the opening paragraph to the thread. Please reread this until you figure out why I'm mocking you. Pay special attention to the third sentence.

The year is 1101. A new land mass has been discovered somewhere to the Southwest. Your people have attempted to lay claim to the land and have set up a small village on the coast. They are asking for people to travel over to the New World, to settle and conquer the land; and you have decided to join them.

So it seems that one of the two is going on:
1. We are not at the land mass in the southwest, or..
2. We have not discovered our peoples camp on the coast.
We found the box with supplies noting that a certain ship sometimes is forced to stop here. Stop here on its way to the new land?

Either way we need to hit the highest ground on this island (points to the hill) and see if we can spot any other land or spot a camp on the coast. So not to sound repetitious but lets all stick together, connected by rope, and travel to the top of the hill and see what we can find!

I agree. Let's carefully assess the situationhere, forage what we can, and move on if we don't find anything.

We can't just hang out here waiting to fall into a sink hole.

OK so you all get to the hilltop and see that this is a small island with no visible structures or campsites.

« Moe : Excellent. I hope you can navigate using only the stars as your guide.
« pocksucket : I'm renowned for it in our Viking village .
So lets pack up and get the hell out of here, we need to head South West!

Yep. Let's assemble everything we've got, top off our water supplies, and take a portion of the goods in the chest to help us along our way. We should wait until the tides shift again-we're too late to benefit from the flow now. It will be easier if we can depart on the next high tide.

*thinks* Maybe the people that came here to conquer this land are the same people who left the goods buried here.

Awwww, don't tell me I did all that work for nothing!!! *grumbles to self* Turn them into toads *grumble grumble* Why can't we just set-up a colony here and then we'll set out for more lands? You know, conquer the world and stuff?

Look around you--what are we going to conquer it with? Others have been here before, and moved on because of the lack of resources. We'd do well to benefit from their experience. Our goal is to reach the established colony...this ain't it. We don't even have enough people to split up the party and leave some here.

Sorry, but it's some more boat time, methinks.

We can make it an outpost then. A place where as we were traveling could be used as a rest area.

But lets not listen to me, lets go then! New adventures ahead and all.

*starts packing up*

Look at it this way MHA...you guys tapped into the reserve food left on the island and paid it back by building a nice shelter for anyone who has to land here. Surely the gods will reward you for your hard work that is donated to the next weary traveler.

So you are all packed and ready to set sail again.

The boats are loaded in the same manner as they were before. Bornbad's mead, extra clothes, runestones, AND the pig named Jerry are loaded onto boat #3 as well.

Final goodbyes are said to the spirit of Suebesdottir as you push the boats away. A melancholy feeling irks you as the tiny island leaves your view and once more gives way to the open sea. You promise yourselves not to allow a senseless death to occur again.

I stand at the bow of my vessel, silently weeping for the loss of Suebesdottir and Bornbad. I clutch a lock of Suebesdottir's hair and begin knitting a memorial from the hair.

Jeg lang g hjem, rygg det fjords der hvor jeg var fdt.

I realize that I will not see my home fjord again.

Ta meg det ny verden, meg sster.

I envision a new world full of life, living in harmony.

My sisters, let us dream of this new world of plenty.

We stand together, arms around each other as we move towards the new world.
