CHP confirmed that a broken structural cable and eyebar brace that fell onto the upper deck of the Bay Bridge early Tuesday evening was part of the emergency reinforcement that was installed on the span last September.

I wondered why it was closed today since I hadn't heard of any scheduled maintenance.
And my irrational fear of being suspended over a body of water whilst driving in three thousand pounds worth of metal that cannot be used as a flotation device becomes a little more rational...

Meh a cable snapped, its not like they only used just enough cables to get by. It would require a catastrophic failure of multiple sets of cables to put the bridge in danger of falling.
