He believes that the test blast was a "statement" by Russia comparable in its psychological effect to America's demonstration of the Moab just before the 2003 invasion of Iraq - a demonstration never followed up by its actual use.
I hope that's all it is.

Both of these articles are disturbing. Russia is trying to control artic oil reserves, building a tunnel to Alaska, floating nuclear power plants, flying near US territories...do a plime search on Russia and the stories are there.

Are we heading for another cold war? With Putin out, who will take over? Will his successor continue these actions?

I was originally thinking of titling the article as "Cold War II"

I wonder if Russia is suffering from, what I like to call, "Reverse ADD" or "Not getting enough attention" This affliction is usually confined to the elite Hollywood tramps. But with the U.S. getting all the attention for the last decade, it is possible.

Putin has put some guy from the Russian treasury as prime minister, not an obvious choice for Putin. I give Putin the benefit of the doubt here, considering he put a neutral guy for the time being. Until the elections at least.

Fradkov said he asked for the dissolution of his government because with elections approaching, Putin needed to have a free hand to make decisions, including those concerning appointments.
I really don't see the big deal here. The government is conducting itself as usual - how does that make for a second 'cold war'? Sure it's an unstable country - they had idiots running it for the majority of the last century - but I don't think the rest of the planet needs to get their knickers in knots over this.

Quit being so rational.

My story is surly not going to get the attention I want with talk like that.

I put the title in caps and used an exclamation mark and everything.

You're right; I should have picked up on this when I noticed it was linked to Fox news.

so:

Oh my goodness!!! Russia - they can't have any changes in their government?!! We'd better hurry up and restore all those DEW line stations they're dismantling/cleaning up (they're seriously environmental disasters!) up here!!

I don't know what Putin is up to, but it sure sounds like he has something up his sleeve.

I'm just going to throw this out there - it's an unverified hypothesis and all - but I'm going to guess it's his arm.
