TIME magazine: The Clean Energy Scam Posted: 4 months ago by cb__
Critics call biofuels a "crime against humanity" - pitting the 800 million people with cars against the 800 million people with hunger. Every acre used to generate fuel is an acre that can't be used to generate the food needed to feed us or the carbon storage needed to save us.

In my mind it is very simple, but people have different opinions and nothing is black and white or so they say that there are levels of gray.
But IMHO, there shouldn't be ANY development of bio-fuels that use foods BEFORE solving the world hunger problem.

Hydrogen based fuel has the most potential IMO. Work on that, and save our forrests. Edit: its not friday anymore I need to change my avatar.

It would take some tremendous scientific advances to get me on the biofuel bandwagon.
In addition to the loss in food production, which is my primary frustration with biofuel, one must consider the water and ENERGY used to cultivate, process and refine crops before they can be used as biofuels. It's pretty much the same if not more as is used for extraction and use of fossil fuels.
Um, dork mentioned saving forrests, so "That's all I have to say about that"

That's all fine and dandy, but it's not like we're running out of land anywhere quickly. It's not like we're going to lose land that can be used for consumption.
I mean, even if we take away some land for consumption, it'll become "fertile" enough to grow food some point in the future.

While not a popular point of view, famine and disease has restricted human population from becoming too large for thousands of years. Now we're stepping in and artificially creating more of a burden on limited resources. I hate the idea of someone needlessly dying of hunger or disease, but what are the consequences of unrestrained population explosion?
I guess we always have greed and genocide to balance out the world.
